My name is Isabel Dalbom. I am a girl scout for Troop 40619 in Louisiana. We need to stop palm oil use in our Girl Scout cookies, because we are contributing to deforestation in rainforests and replacing them with palm oil plantations throughout the world. We are taking the homes rainforest creatures such as orangutans and many apes, monkeys and birds. I have seen this with my own eyes. On a family vacation to Honduras and El Salvador I saw the rainforest had been replaced with palm trees to get the fruits to extract the the oil. When we were on a canoeing tour we missed out on seeing some of the animals, such as howler monkeys, toucans and many more that we were supposed to see and that lived there because they had been destroying their homes. It was sad because they don’t have homes. For example, if these animals needed a material in our homes and then decided to cut them down we would be in trouble.That is what we are doing to them. We need to stop using palm oil in our cookies, because girl scouts should be leaders and respect other animals in their homes. As part of the girl scout law states We promise to "make the world a better place" and using palm oil is NOT making it a better place.

Palm Oil Plantations 

In recent decades palm oil plantations have exploded around the world as we continue to rely on its use in many industrial processed foods. Many times it comes not at the expense of other crops but at the

expense of rainforests driving animals toward extinction, limiting the earth’s ability to capture carbon dioxide, and creating chemical-laden single-species biodiversity deserts.
