Why this petition matters

Started by Julia Goodinson

Please read, this could be you! During this lockdown my mother passed away, she went into hospital with pneumonia which she recovered from and was due to be sent home however due to a delay with home care services she was kept in and moved to a different ward where she contracted delirium and COVID-19.

She battled COVID-19 for several weeks in which time we were told to prepare for the worst, miraculously she recovered from COVID-19 however in a cruel turn of events on the night before she was due to be discharged again she suffered a perforated bowel and passed away alone.

During this time there were no visiting rights, and even when she was end of life there was only allowed to be 1 member of the family for one hour per day. As a result of this we were forced to watch our mother die via video call in our own homes or in hospital corridors as they made no available room for a relative or relatives to be in a private area.

The anguish and heartbreak this has caused has driven me to start up this petition as we are now faced with the possibility that this pandemic could go on with no available vaccine, causing more families to suffer the heartache we have had to endure.

If we do not review this serious issue with regards to visitation and end of life now, this could be your mother, daughter, son, friend or loved one alone and confused at the very end!
