Support residents parking schemes in Cambridge
Support residents parking schemes in Cambridge
Why this petition matters
On Wednesday 10th March the County Council highways committee decided to stop any further Residents Parking Zones in Cambridge (with a review in 12 months.)
We the undersigned object to this decision.
1. We call on the County Council to reverse its decision and allow residents democratic local votes, either for or against, on the introduction of Residents Parking in their own neighbourhoods.
2. Every day thousands of commuters drive into Cambridge causing huge problems of street parking, congestion and pollution. The introduction of Residents Parking Zones is tackling this by helping residents find spaces and encouraging commuters to use the expanding park and ride service.
3. The reduction in car traffic will benefit both residents and those coming to work in Cambridge by allowing an efficient bus service to operate. This is the quickest way forward to solving traffic congestion in our City.
4. It undermines the County Council’s own climate change strategy, which aims to cut car journeys and related pollution.
Residents' parking zones in Cambridge are a 'win win' for residents, commuters and the environment.
