Vanessa Guillen and many other people in the Army have experienced trauma from sexual harassment and assault. Right now the Army handles their own SHARP (Sexual Harassment/ Assault Response and Prevention) cases. This is a good program, but the cases need to be handled by a non military, third party that doesn’t have any interest in the person’s rank or army affiliation. Another area of the military that needs reform is the Equal Opportunity officer. EO tends to be handled by the units NCO. So if your NCO is racist or sexist toward you where do you go? This is a breakdown in the chain of command. For this reason we demand that Equal Opportunity be handled by an outside third party as well. Please sign the petition to support a bill in Vanessa’s name requiring for a third party to handle SHARP and EO cases.
