Morro Bay City Park Transit Plan update:
On Thursday May 2nd Morro Bay Art Association President Patricia Newton and Art Show Director Steve Powers met with City of Morro Bay Officials Scott Collins (City Manager) Janeen Burlingame (Public Works) and Pamela Newman (Public Works) at the City Park Bus Stop location.
At that time Patricia Newton and Steve Powers presented the City Officials with a plan that would use 400 square feet of the current playground area next to Harbor Street for the Bus Stop expansion. Mrs. Newton and Mr. Powers also proposed to donate $2000 to the City of Morro Bay for additional Playground equipment if their proposal was accepted.
Utilizing the expansion of the current Bus Stop towards the playground would not impact future Art in the Park shows. We also support removing the old transit building and re-laying new concrete and adding more benches and bike racks. This proposal is cost effective, it allows for greater visibility of the Bus Stop and will upgrade the current playground. Mrs. Newton and Mr. Powers also proposed that a concrete CHALK ART WALL be added to the very Western edge of the playground that would allow children to do free hands on expression art.
Our next meeting with City officials is on Friday August 2nd. If the officials do not accept our proposal and insist on moving the Transit Center to another location in the Park then Art in the Park will be adversely affected.
If necessary we will organize our public supporters and attend the Public Advisory Board Meeting scheduled for August 20 at 5:30 pm at the Veterans Hall in Morro Bay.
We will keep you posted concerning the outcome of the August 2nd meeting. Photo of our proposal for the expanded Bus Stop to the edge of the playground is posted on the top of this update.
