Crown the 29-1 Yeshiva University Men's Basketball Team as Division III Champions
Why this petition matters
Led by the most efficient offense in Division III, the Yeshiva University Maccabees reeled off 29 wins in a row and cemented themselves as the best team in the country. They were scheduled for a showdown against #3 Randolph-Macon College in the Sweet 16, but the game was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The numbers back up Yeshiva as the best team in the country:
- The Macs had a winning percentage of 96.7, which ranked 1st in Division III
- The Macs shot 53.10 from the field, which ranked 1st in Division III
- The Macs shot 40.60 from three point range, which ranked 2nd in Division III
- Power forward Gabriel Leifer's four triple doubles ranked 1st in Division III
"Sure, they dominated the Skyline Conference," said your pessimistic friend. "But are they really the best team in the country?"
Well - Yeshiva not only beat its first two opponents in the tournament, they elevated their game to otherworldly levels on the biggest stage.
On their way to scoring 102 points against both Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Penn State Harrisburg (PSU), Yeshiva shot an impressive 63% from the field - and an impossible 57.7% from beyond the arc in those games combined!
In a run that will not soon be forgotten, the Macs proved that their dominance on the court extended far beyond the Skyline Conference. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic (rightfully) forced a cancellation of the NCAA Tournament, Yeshiva should be crowned the Division III champions.
