Why this petition matters

Started by John Greenfield

Lichfield is a beautiful city with green spaces provided for the local community, we are potentially going to lose one of our green spaces “Stychbrook Park” to a proposed development of a Leisure Centre.

This move will result in the irrevocable loss of this green space, two grass football pitches and parkland whilst depriving the local community of their best resource of a large flat, green space, used daily and extensively by many sections of the community, including walkers, runners, dog walkers, community groups, and children playing.

We must not allow this proposal to go ahead when there are alternatives to Stychbrook Park that could be considered that would not impact on the local community but still provide the development of a Leisure Centre.

Covid has highlighted how important these spaces are to our mental and physical wellbeing. However, one of our public green spaces is under threat as the council are proposing to build a new leisure centre on Stychbrook Park, necessitating the destruction and lose of this flat open area. This is the only level, flat open space in this area for local families or disabled people to use, without having to use a car.

If you live in or visit Lichfield, please sign this petition to let the council know how much our city’s green spaces mean to us. Once they are gone, they are gone! They are home to wildlife, are safe spaces for children and adults to walk, cycle and play - let’s keep them safe for future generations.

The council are currently undertaking site investigation work, having settled on this site as the “best” for a new leisure centre, with outline planning permission due around the end of 2021; so please register your early objection by signing this petition before it becomes too late.

As well as the petition you can also email your objections to your local councillor or the council directly at lichfieldleisuredevelopment@lichfield.gov.uk
