This petition is for those who believe that it is unjust that Mr. Greer Pedoe, a brilliant well respected teacher currently employed at I.E. Weldon SS has been placed on leave pending an investigation. 

It has been confirmed that Mr. Pedoe was placed on leave because he openly spoke about his struggles with mental health and suicide in his class. As an individual who took that exact class I would like to say this - Mr. Pedoe discusses his struggles very briefly in reference to changing careers, but is always open to students coming and discussing the topic more in depth in class if that is something that they would like to do. The action of placing Mr. Pedoe on leave because some parents and students were uncomfortable with a brief mention of mental health in their classroom is exactly why we need teachers like Mr. Pedoe to remain employed by our school so that students who do struggle with those issues and do not have anyone else to turn to have someone. 

Beyond this petition there is also a letter writing campaign that has been launched by several current and former students. Most of the people who have reached out to myself or others involved in organizing this, specifically mention how much Mr. Pedoe sharing his own experiences with them helped them in the journey of their own mental health because there was someone else that understood, who did not shame them for it, and who listened and guided. 

Please sign this petition so that the TLDSB Board of Trustees and IE Weldon SS can be shown that students, parents, and community members are in support of Mr. Greer Pedoe. Without an outpouring of support, it is a very real possibility that Mr. Pedoe could lose his job. This is an unacceptable outcome as it would be a great loss to IE Weldon SS and the Trillium Lakelands District School Board.
