Why this petition matters

https://www.saveapachetrail.com/#cta      June 8th 2019 the human-caused Woodbury Fire started to burn The Superstition Wilderness in the Tonto National Forest of AZ. The fire burned 123,875 acres, a lot of damage to the south side of The Apache Trail (aka AZ State Hwy 88). Early morning Sept 23rd a storm dropped approx 5 inches of rain to the burn scarred area causing flooding & rockslides. This flood (some calling the 100 year flood) led to damage to The Apache Trail from Fish Creek Hill to The Apache Lake Marina & Resort (approx mile post 215-229.5). The rock slides & washes took out portions of this 14 mile stretch of The Apache Trail, with the most damage to Fish Creek Hill. We must save AZ history and get the oldest road in AZ fixed. Without your help it is feared that this stretch of The Apache Trail & all the history will be lost forever! Future generations should be able to drive this road built in the early 1900's. There is so much history & wildlife that can only be seen on this road. The Teamsters built this road by hand (& mule) that lasted over 100 years. It needs to remain an attraction to the great state of AZ! It has been rumored it may become a walking trail; it was built as a road for vehicles & should remain as such. President Theodore Roosevelt traveled this road & in 1990 The Roosevelt Lake Bridge was dedicated in his name. Please help preserve the history by signing. We ask that Governor Doug Ducey makes these repairs happen to save The Apache Trail!! Damage documented in this video: https://youtu.be/EMi29g3Bnds #savetheapachetrail #saveapachetrail
