Why this petition matters

Started by Joanne McMillan

On the 19th December 2018 the Australian government implemented a strategy that resulted in an estimated 150 Heritage Brumbies being cruelly shot by alleged marksmen from helicopters against the wishes of 1000s of Australian citizens at the Singleton Army Base.

After the disastrous massacre of over 600 Brumbies in 2000 in the Guy Fawkes National Park where critically wounded horses were found suffering days later which resulted in the ban of aerial shooting of Wild Horses in all NSW National Parks, the ruling bodies saw fit to allow it to happen once again without public consultation at the Singleton Army Base.

These horses were not starving or sick, just inconvenient to the Australian authorities.

Fast forward to 2021 whereby the Victorian Government headed up by Premier Daniel Andrews MP and his Minister for Environment Lily D’Ambrosio are calling for the ground and aerial shooting of all Victorian Brumbies.

WE MUST NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GUARANTEE INSTANT DEATH BY AERIAL SHOOTING a statement which was backed up by the RSPCA in a successful prosecution after the Guy Fawkes massacre.
A court case fraught with inconsistencies and cover ups.
THIS HAS GOT TO STOP NOW BEFORE A PRECEDENT is set allowing this to reoccur under the banner of humane management.

THERE IS NO WAY OF GUARANTEEING GROUND SHOOTING SHALL NOT BE CRUEL AND INHUMANE.

It is impossible to guarantee a kill shot from a moving, unstable platform (helicopter) at a fast moving target (horse) and in this case Brumby.

Please take the time to sign and share this petition. Together let’s show those who are in a position of power that we the people want our iconic symbol of freedom the Heritage Brumby to remain wild with managed and sustainable populations within the Australian landscape without fear of persecution.
