Why this petition matters

As most of you are probably aware, PlayStation recently announced the highly anticipated Director's Cut for Ghost of Tsushima made available for both PS4 & PS5. It comes with new content in the form of the Iki Island Expansion (DLC) & PS5 enhancements (dynamic 4K resolution targeting 60fps, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers & Japanese lip sync).

While this is certainly welcoming news to eager fans & returning players, the Director's Cut for the PS4 which is priced at $59.99 ($10 less than the PS5's $69.99) is NOT entitled to a free PS5 upgrade, instead charging PS4 players an additional $10 for the optional PS5 upgrade. For players who already own the copy of the game, they can choose to upgrade for $29.99 but (again) still need to fork out an additional $10 for the optional PS5 version. While many in the gaming industry have provided free next gen upgrades for their cross gen titles including from Sony themselves with Spider-Man: Miles Morales & Sackboy: A Big Adventure, the Director's Cut for Ghost of Tsushima unfortunately would not be enjoying such privileges. I presume the $10 next gen tax is to discourage players from circumventing their $70 price tag for PS5 titles, preventing buyers from taking advantage of a pro-consumer policy.

Most in the gaming community recognizes the continued hard work & dedication displayed by the developers Sucker Punch Productions in supporting Ghost of Tsushima with various post launch content & features enjoyed by most privileged enough to experience it but slapping an upgrade fee is certainly a dishonorable move on PlayStation's part for all the goodwill players have given to this beloved Player's Choice for the 2020 Game Awards.

Support me by making the PS5 for the players & not for the payers!
