Why this petition matters

Started by Leah Murphy

The payment for 4th year student nurses will be cut by the HSE from the 14th of July. As per the HSE, our pay was initially increase to that of a carer (HCA) due to COVID19. Now they are trying to revert our pay back. The HSE has decided that we do not deserve to be paid a living wage anymore. They have decided that COVID19 is over, when we are very much still dealing with it and it’s repercussions, every single day. We as student nurses have made huge professional and personal sacrifices, including moving away from family, risking our lives on the frontline and dealing with unparalleled emotional trauma with little to no support, to name only a few issues. On top of this, we gave 3 years of training consisting of unpaid 12/13 hour shifts only to be put back on a 10 euro an hour salary. We have to pay back all sick time if we had COVID19 due to working in a pandemic or had to miss days to self isolate when in unprotected contact and awaiting swab results. To be paid a fair wage, we deserve to be paid the same as 1st - 3rd year student nurses working as HCAs. If you respect student nurses working on the frontline, and believe we are worth more than the way the HSE continues to treat us, please sign this petition and give us a reason to stay.
