Why this petition matters
"Standing in Solidarity with Palestinians in Jerusalem"
In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
We, Muslim Elected Officials, Leaders from Other Faith Backgrounds, Community Leaders and aligned organizations - express our solidarity with the Palestinian Muslim & Christian brothers and sisters struggling against the brutal military occupation that seeks to forcibly expel them from their homes in Jerusalem which has been their cultural and spiritual center for nearly two millennia.
We are outraged at the scenes from Al-Aqsa Mosque compound where Israeli forces once again used excessive and lethal force against defenseless worshippers during the holy month of Ramadan. The attacks against the worshippers followed weeks of justified protests from Palestinians against the illegal forced expulsions of residents in East Jerusalem.
We call on the Biden Administration, our US Senators - Booker and Menendez, and our 12 U.S. Congressional Representatives - to condemn these violent acts. These are decidedly not "clashes" as the media has been portraying - these are exactly what the video tells you they are - attacks designed to continue the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their homes and homeland.
We echo the words of Congresswoman Cori Bush who said "I know what it's like to be brutalized for simply advocating for my own humanity" and Senator Elizabeth Warren who said "The forced removal of long-time Palestinian residents in Sheik Jarrah is abhorrent and unacceptable"
In this new and hopeful time where we seek to break the back of racial and systemic injustice in our own land, let us advocate for the values of freedom, justice and equality all over the world. We ask our representatives to have the courage of their convictions and stand up for the human rights of Palestinians. We remind them of the words of the one of the greatest civil rights leaders in history - Dr. Martin Luther King: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." We ask that you take those words to heart and act now.
We invite all to attend our Press Conference and Rally at Gould Park (999 Main Street, Paterson, NJ 07514, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at starting at 5pm.
