Why this petition matters

Started by Jennifer Carter

At the end of December 2017, I had surgery.  My friends sent me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers as a get well arrangement.  I put them up high on an armoire as we have cats who eat plants so I didn't want them to get sick if they ate any but I had no idea that lilies are extremely toxic and the smallest ingestion of a single petal can cause complete kidney failure for a cat.  A couple petals had fallen as they were dying and our sweet Yammie must have eaten at least one of them.  He started acting out of sorts, just not himself, but I knew something was wrong.  I took him to the vet and his levels were off the charts.  We tried to save him at the emergency hospital but unfortunately his levels kept rising, so we had to make the worst decision ever.  He was only 8 at the time.  We were horrified.  We still are.  We don't want this to happen to anyone else ever!  The more we spoke to people about it, the more we learned how few people know.

We want to get the word out there and we would like the florists to help with a warning on arrangements.  Help people prevent their cats and dogs from ever getting sick or dying from toxic plants.

FLORISTS - please warn people of harmful plants!  Put a symbol on online purchases that says pet friendly or toxic to pets!  Let's prevent any more unnecessary pet deaths.

Thank you!

Jenn and Paul Carter
