Why this petition matters

Started by Lucy Booth

Nowzad rescue is trying to get out of Afghanistan right now! They have set up 'Operation Ark' to get all of the animals and workers at the shelter to safety here in the UK. They are under threat from the Taliban regime and the founder of the charity will not leave ANYONE behind until all are safe. They need safe passage to the airport and flights out of Afghanistan for the animals and staff.

They already rehome cats and dogs to the UK and we want the UK Government to help get them all to safety. There is a huge shortage of vets and veterinary nurses in the UK and Pets At Home and Vets Now have offered jobs to all of the Nowzad staff. Some of the female vets that work at Nowzads rescue are the first ever female vets in Afghanistan.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE, PLEASE DONATE DIRECTLY TO NOWZAD RESCUE. THE LINKS TO THEIR WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA ARE BELOW.

"Our work in Afghanistan is to make a difference for all the dogs, cats and other animals with no voice but ours started from one man’s efforts to make a difference for one dog at a time in a place; that was back then; described as the most dangerous place on Earth... Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

In November 2006 the men of Kilo Company of 42 Commando Royal Marines arrived in the war torn town of 'Now Zad' in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Their mission; provide stability for the local people during a period of ever decreasing security.

The Royal Marines soon realised that it wasn’t only the local people that needed their help. Many of the stray dogs that roamed the town of ‘Now Zad’ now had a guardian for the first time in their lives; in the form of Royal Marine Sergeant 'Pen' Farthing.

We have reunited over 1,600 soldiers with the dogs and cats that they rescue and bond with on the front lines in Afghanistan and we continue to be there for the brave men and women who show compassion to animals during their deployment.

Nowzad manages a dog shelter currently looking after over 140 dogs (most available for adoption!) along with a cat shelter (over 40 cats and most available for adoption!) supported by a modern veterinary clinic staffed by a team of 24 Afghan nationals (including Afghanistan’s first female veterinarians) delivering care and attention to animals in distress.

We have also opened the first ever donkey sanctuary in Afghanistan; a vital facility for the overburdened donkeys worked remorselessly on the streets of Kabul."
