Why this petition matters
Duke Photography, the oldest-standing Photography studio in Arizona, is in jeopardy of being demolished and replaced with a fast food chain. The iconic 1950s building is rich with history, being the go-to spot for family photos for decades. Rather than explore adaptive re-use to maintain the integrity of the historic structure and our historic neighborhoods, it will be demolished and replaced with a Raising Cane's. We can change this. We must preserve historic buildings in our neighborhoods to not further deteriorate what little architectural history Phoenix has, still standing.
To those living in neighboring historic districts like mine, North Encanto, this will affect your property value. This will affect the neighboring small businesses and restaurants. This will affect the charm we've restored in our neighborhoods. This will affect your commute. Anyone who knows Cane's knows its lines..lines that spill into the streets - in this case, Thomas Rd and 7th Ave.
Help us fight this change to encourage historic architectural preservation and prevent a proliferation of big box in our small neighborhoods. Please sign this petition and write to zoning.adjustment@phoenix.gov to state your opinions. Our words can make a difference as the rezoning is voted on- but I can't do it without you!
