Why this petition matters

Thousands of children have been sexually abused while detained, as many as 4,556 reports of sexual abuse were filed. ICE denies any responsibility for staffs sexual abuse of detainees.   Almost every sexual abuse complaint in immigration detentions are ignored. Meaning this will be an ongoing issue as the rapists are aware they won’t face consequences. A woman at an immigration detention center in Washington stated she was raped as she sought help by a medical worker as well as a private facility contractor. Not only but also, a woman reported officers cuffing and macing her, officers then proceeded to film her as she showered to wash off the painful mace. Not to mention, a man addressing ICE threatening him with deportation for refusing to engage in oral sex, they threatened to deport him to Haiti although the man was from the Bahamas. Not only as a mother but as a soulful being, reading about these traumatic events deeply saddens my soul. Speaking up against them is something that is long overdue, our voices count our people matter.
Holocaust survivor Erin Butters stated, “ knowing that hundreds of vulnerable children are subjected to this extreme trauma it is totally devastating and heartbreaking for me.” Since May 11, Several reports by detainees to advocates states a frequent use of a disinfectant that has caused them eye irritation, headaches, stomach pains, fainting, difficulty breathing, bloody noses, as well as coughing up blood. HDQ neutral is being sprayed every 30 minutes, instructions for HDQ Neutral specify: adequate ventilation, no people around, time to allow it to disperse, rinsing or washing it off. None of these instructions are being complied with, victims are forced to breath it in aerosol form. Guards use masks as well as gloves when spraying, but detainees are forced to face the consequences labeled right on the back. When are they going to see us as humans? When is enough going to be enough?  Please sign if you are against these inhumane practices of ICE.

-Removal tactics used by ICE take away the rights for a fair court hearings. The government practically rams people through a system that ignores why they flee their homes in search of asylum, risking their own lives to get to the US.
- A hearing held in April revealed ORR stating they were not able to determine the whereabouts of 1475 children. In fact ORR officials were unable to locate children between Oct-Dec way before the policy took effect.
- 9/10 children who represents themselves are ordered to be deported, less than on third of children have an attorney in immigration court. The government expects children as young as 18 months, unable to speak, to represent themselves in court against an attorney.
- Jennifer Anzardo Valdes, a children’s immigration attorney declared, “ some of them talk about seeing family members murdered. It’s not uncommon for us to have a 5 year old describe to us what a dead body on the street looks like. Or how he heard bullets from a gun being shot. “
- CNN clarifies that there includes a possibility of these children falling into the hands of traffickers or being recruited into violent gangs. They fell into the hands of those they were trying so hard to escape. Children are not only fighting to stay but to live, being sent back could very much result in death.
- ICE enforcement tears families apart as well as undermines the trust we should all equally share towards the law enforcement. A fake university by the name of University Of Farmington was set up in 2015 to lure and later arrest 250 immigrant students. Student in search of furthering their education, a better future.

- Recently ICE has detained as well as deported a  record number of people. Unnecessarily locking up thousands of immigrants every year, placing detainees in in-humane confinement. A report published by the NYT affirmed witnessing neglected, snot covered children whom aren’t even given diapers causing them to relieve themselves in their pants.
