STOP NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL'S GRAB OF THE DISABLED'S FUNDS
STOP NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL'S GRAB OF THE DISABLED'S FUNDS
Why this petition matters
Norfolk County Council are proposing, as a money saving exercise, to change the minimum income guarantee for adults with disabilities, which is the minimum amount of money people need to live on to pay for things like food and bills.
This means that disabled people will have to somehow pay for more of the day care service provision they receive currently funded by NCC adult social services. It will mean using the money (disability benefits) they have from central government which is for their care at home.
It will leave many in a terrible situation - what do they give up - care, food or the little social life they have?
The Council say they will spend some of the savings to help those affected to manage their money better, into training, and to find jobs. The vast majority will never be able to sensibly make use of that. The most vulnerable will be made to pay for the benefit of those more able.
NCC have a responsibility to promote the wellbeing of adults with disabilities under the 2014 Care Act. They appear to prefer funding expensive traffic and street schemes.
