Outrage at the unfair dismissal of community hero Father Dave
Outrage at the unfair dismissal of community hero Father Dave
Why this petition matters
Father Dave Smith has been a community hero both locally, nationally and internationally over the last 30 years. His work through programs such as his Old School Boxing Academy in the Inner West community, and outreach through initiatives such as the Boxers for Peace program in Syria have empowered and given hope to thousands of disadvantaged youth through the years. Having twice won the Marrickville Citizen of the Year award, and been nominated for Australian of the Year three times, this man has received domestic and international recognition for his outreach.
However, after over 30 years serving his community and the Anglican Church, this great man has been dismissed from his job and had his license revoked to practice his trade any further. Additionally, he has been asked to vacate his housing in the weeks to come, placing both himself and his young daughter in a precarious situation.
This purpose of this petition is to raise awareness and express outrage at the disgraceful situation this great man has been placed in, and to prevent it happening to anyone else in the future. This petition serves as a call to any parties possible to intervene and bring some justice and security for this man, but also to not see any more put through this humiliating and degrading state of affairs. For someone who has helped their community tirelessly for decades, it is the least we can do. We call for the reform of the Church’s policy in this matter, and demand Father Dave receive just compensation for all the work he has done over the years.
