Following the recent reveal for Spider-Man: Remastered PS5 game, many new features and improvements to the game were announced that the majority of the gaming community were pleased to hear and welcomed with open arms; however, one of the major and, in my opinion, most noticeable changes to the original game we know and love is the face remodel for Peter Parker. It’s come as quite a shock to many, some of which didn’t seem to mind but the majority appear to feel quite strongly against this; straight away it started giving flashbacks to the big conflict that was seen with the Sonic The Hedgehog movie trailer that got released in 2019, this was then completely reworked and a year later fans welcomed the beloved blue hedgehog that generations have grown up with. 

Now before anyone starts to make the argument of “this was done to help enhance the gameplay and make characters and story feel more believable, plus you’ll be in a suit wearing a mask for the majority of it”, I understand this, I totally agree with the idea of trying to make improvements to the PS4 release in an attempt to make full use of the PS5’s capabilities and ultimately provide a much greater detailed and immersive experience for players. One of the things that has a big impact on the gameplay and story for this game is the cutscenes and dialogue between characters that are done amazingly well, especially when handling more mature life issues.  

Taking a look at the official footage provided that showcases the new face remodel for Peter Parker, one of the instantly noticeable differences between the 2018 John Bubniak model to the new Ben Jordan is the character now looks drastically younger; in fact it’s so much so that when I asked around to get a few varied opinions, the majority made an initial link to Tom Holland stating that Peter Parker now appears more like the young teen style found massively appealing in the Marvel films. The resulting age difference becomes even more apparent when you start comparing the remodel to the other characters in the gameplay, especially in the major PS5 release for Miles Morales who in the new gameplay looks well defined, aged and more mature but yet now will almost appear to look older than the Peter Parker remodel. When you effectively put a new mask on Peter and keep his voice and the other characters the same, it creates a real sense of unbalance for the community that have grown to love and cherish the original Spider-Man game so much and have developed an instinctive attachment to our beloved Peter Parker.

To conclude, I believe that the face remodel changes that have actually been made to Peter Parker have caused a noticeable upset amongst the masses of players that have gladly poured hours into this game and enjoyed every second. Now many are left full of such conflicting thoughts regarding the new PS5 remaster that both myself and others I’ve spoken too now feel a loss of excitement for it and are pretty much deterred from playing it, some even feel put off the whole release hype of the PS5 entirely.

Hopefully Insomniac Games will take their fans voices into consideration.
