We all know how masterfully detailed New Leaf was. The fault is by no means not on us for expecting something even better from this long-awaited sequel.

It took a long time to admit that this was not what was expected. Best efforts for shushing my emotion of discontent were made. Yet still now am I enchanted with the love for this series.

Out of that love, I here present a humble petition to ask Nintendo for the following big and small changes that I've collected from many platforms:

Big changes:

  • Add more buildable shops and facilities– three(Nook's Cranny, Able Sisters, and the museum) is unusually too few. There should at least be the same number as the previous game(reviving old facilities like the Roost would be nice)
  • Add more furniture– people are already experiencing multiple encounters with the same furniture in the shop, from the balloon, etc.
  • Add more variety to what our fellow islanders talk about. Their behaviors are cute, though.
  • Make our homes available to become bigger.
  • Make the game less multiplayer dependent– every island is assigned a certain color for some of the furniture, and the only way to get the furniture with a different color is to visit other islands. If you don't have real life friends who have ACNH and can play locally,  you're left with two options: to buy another Nintendo Switch or subscribe for Nintendo Online. Either way, you have to pay money.
  • Speaking of which, the current situation where each member of a family isn't able to own their island without buying their own Nintendo Switch must be fixed. Many are having trouble.
  • Add more multiplayer activities. Although it is clear that the game depends largely on multiplayer play style, there isn't really much to do when your friends come over. You can only talk, exchange designs, and show off your island. There are others if the player thinks outside of the box, but otherwise the multiplayer content is fewer than that of New Leaf, considering that it had island tours and live houses.

Small changes:

  • If new features(other than the seasonal events) are to be added, provide a roadmap for at least the frequency to which those are going to be added.

             - This one is more or less solved by the update.

  • More convenient perspective change– to be able to see the top of our protagonist's head any time during island editing.
  • Provide a less tedious way to collect bells or make things cheaper–a lot of people have no choice but to sell turnips at islands with soaring stalk prices, which is mistaking the means for the end as the devs are focused on nerfing the usual bell-making methods so much that it now incentivizes players to make bells in the easier and perhaps balance-breaking way.

             - The spring update exacerbated this issue. Rare bugs are now more difficult to find. The devs perhaps intend to get the players stay for longer by blocking the money-making process, but this goes against the play style of most players— even those who play on real time. Seeing that many spend hours per day on making bells(and that many others make them through visiting islands where Nook’s Cranny buys turnips at a high price) the demand clearly isn’t on making that process longer. If the devs want to prolong the playtime of us fellow islanders, they must not dilute the content itself: they must add content.

  • Regarding terraformation, assign individual buttons for formation and destruction.
  • Also regarding terraformation, add an indicator that shows which portion of the land is going to be edited.
  • Provide more room for our household storage.
  • Increase the number of resources that can be held per stack.
  • Make the design posting service in Able Sisters less social media dependent.
  • Craft items by stacks.
  • Get the bunny to stop hindering our resource collection.
  • Politely notify the non resident representatives that they can't advance the island's progress.
  • Make multiple purchases of the same category of clothing items in the fitting room possible
  • Allow resetting the furniture layout of villagers' homes to their individual defaults. This is so that we don't have to kick out our first five villagers in order to see their unique layouts.

We chose to take the form of petition as it is difficult for Nintendo to distinguish our voices of disappointment from the glaring news of success they're celebrating on; it is nothing but the truth that this game is an unprecedentedly successful Nintendo Switch game in terms of initial sales. That being said, going to Nintendo's customer support page may still help. I find petitions more reliable, though.

I and many of my friends who play on real time(since 12 am 3/20 JST) felt the real disappointment and despair after finishing all the Nook's quests, realizing that only two shops were ever to be built. Other stresses coming from inconveniences were manageable only when assuming that there were new buildings to come and much more new pieces of furniture to decorate my island with. There still is a hope for scheduled updates that add new buildings and furniture outside of seasonal events, but without any roadmaps, the only assurance is that mere hope.

Why Nintendo should care
Although I am very sure that they do, here is a reminder for why this huge success means a lot for them in a potentially negative way. Selling something that is not expected out from a 7-year span of work has a potential of damaging the company's reliability for quality and honesty. What is expected, just in case, is written in the bullet list above.

I can imagine that they are trying the mobile game style, where new contents are continuously added, but that only works when the game is free. With no information about the future plans provided, it is not the customers' fault to assume that the game is sold incomplete. I still, however, have faith in the company, so I am not making that wild assumption.

Yes, time-travelers might play through all of them in a matter of days, regardless of how much content there is. But those who intend to time travel will not be discouraged even if preventing measures are taken.

Adding seasonal events through updates is a good idea. On the other hand, contents that appear all the time, such as paintings, should be there from the beginning.

Apology:
I am sorry if you feel offended by the motive of the petition. I too feel extremely offended when my favorite game is being criticized. Please understand that I am in love with this series as well.
