Fight Ocean Acidification
Fight Ocean Acidification
Why this petition matters
Ocean Acidification is when the pH of the ocean is reduced for a long period of time. When carbon dioxide dissolves in the ocean, carbonic acid is formed and this leads to higher acidity in our oceans.

Life in the oceans is at risk due to ocean acidification. Shellfish, such as oysters and clams are affected, their shells are made from calcium carbonate which is weakening and dissolving due to the higher levels of acidity.
This doesn't just stop at shellfish. Ocean acidification has been shown to significantly reduce the ability of reef-building corals to produce their skeletons. This could cause some big, long term problems for the entire oceans ecosystem, as the coral reefs are home to 25% of marine species.
We need to make every effort to reduce our carbon emissions and take the strain off our oceans. We are petitioning the leaders of these countries to take a strong stand in the fight against rising CO2 emissions. If something isn't done soon, then the damage done to our oceans could be irreparable.
Act Now.
