Why this petition matters

Started by Reggie Berko

With the COVID19 pandemic affecting all within our country, myself and many others have become dependant on aid from the Government. I had been receiving the SEISS (Self Employment Income Support Scheme) grants.

These grants provided to the self employed were to last for a three month period. The government decided to extend the period between the third and the forth grant, to allow those newly self employed to apply for this aid. Resulting in dependants of these grants, under short notice having to make the funds stretch from three months to six months!

Being directly affected by this government decision, I then found out that I was no longer eligible for the grants. Waiting 6 months to find out this devastatingly stressful news. Trying to appeal the decision, I soon discovered written into the legislation for this aid, there is "no right of appeal",

Imagine for one moment, the only government aid you were eligible for is the SEISS grants. Your lively hood has been stopped, and you have NO way of generating income. To then find out you cannot even appeal the decision, and have the chance to explain your unique stressful circumstances.

This is my story! I am asking for a "right of appeal" to be added to the SEISS grants legislation. So me and countless others have the chance to appeal decisions that are so important to help restore our lives and our economy. This is why I need your help signing this petition. The decisions made within our democracy seem to continuously impact our society negatively. I need your help to change this one step at a time. If I can gather enough signatures I can get this heard in Parliament.  All for one, and one for all!
