Grenfell - one of the UK's worst modern disasters. A disaster that could have been prevented. Thousands of homes across the UK are still wrapped in flammable materials and UK laws allow for this to happen. From flammable cladding to wooden balconies, our homes are unsafe. It's not a case of will, it's when. Post Grenfell multiple fires have taken place due to these flammable materials however, national coverage has been limited as there have (fortunately) been no fatalities. But why should it take fatalities for our government to act? Those that horrifically lost their lives in Grenfell would have died in vain if this government refuses to take action.

Ban ALL combustible materials on our homes, irrespective of height, including cladding, balconies and other decorative features. 

I lost my entire home on 9th June 2019, Barking Riverside. An inferno spread across 5 floors within 3 minutes. 100 firefighters risked their lives to put the fire out. It was a miracle there were no human fatalities but multiple animals did perish. Watching everything you have: your entire life and sentimental items ablaze, you feel like you have no control over your life and the aftermath you have to deal with is immense. The only comfort you can take is that you were not inside. You watch devasting events in the news however, you never think it will happen to you and it does put your whole life into perspective. I do not want anyone else to ever have to go through this traumatic experience, especially when it can be prevented. 

The balconies were built out of a category D wood, also described by manufacturers as fire wood. Unethically built, morally wrong and no common sense!  Government guidance allowed this to happen and line the pockets of major property developers like Bellway Homes. Even Fire Risk Assessments earlier in the year instructed by the managing agent RMG highlighted many safety concerns, however they were not acted upon.

Fire does not choose a time or a place! No more Grenfells!
