Why this petition matters

Started by Ian Symes

Seb Patrick passed away suddenly in August 2020, aged just 37, leaving behind his wife, young daughter, friends and family. Nine months on, we're all still heartbroken, and looking for ways to commemorate and celebrate Seb's life. The family would love to install a memorial bench near Crosby Beach, one of Seb's favourite spots, where he and Josephine took Lois for ice creams and iron men on a regular basis - a place he truly felt at home.

Seb's parents are ready and willing to foot the bill, but Sefton Council is refusing permission to install a bench at this location. Apart from anything else, it could really do with the extra seating facility, as it's a popular destination for daily exercise for people of all ages, and currently lacks places to sit, rest and enjoy the beautiful view.

But more than this, Seb's was a life truly worth celebrating. Whether you knew him as a friend, colleague, for his work as writer and editor of the Red Dwarf website, as a contributor to the likes of When Saturday Comes, Empire, The Guardian, Roy of the Rovers or Den of Geek, or from his podcasts such as Cinematic Universe, Mifflinfinity or Beyond The Touchline, we're sure you'll agree that a permanent memorial for this wonderful, loving, enthusiastic and hilarious man would be more than fitting. He doesn't have a gravestone, so we need somewhere to come together and share memories.

For more information, see The Liverpool Echo's article featuring quotes from Seb's mum Mary. We the undersigned urge Sefton Council to reconsider their decision, and give our friend the memorial he deserves, whilst improving the area in the process.
