Why this petition matters

Started by Steve Young

Please sign our "Petition of the Residents", demanding local public officials and officers commit themselves 100 percent to resolving our public safety emergency during 2020, and absolutely no later than the first quarter of 2021.  We are not willing to tolerate a crisis in which our fire district is unable to respond to emergency calls for significant periods of time each month.  Our fire district cannot fight a structure fire, such as a home, without two (2) fire engines and six (6) firefighters from other fire districts.

Response times for medical and fire emergencies exceed industry goals by a dangerous margin.    California law states "fire protection services, rescue services, emergency medical services, hazardous material emergency response services, ambulance services, and other services relating to the protection of lives and property are critical to the public peace, health, and safety of the state".

Our regional fire district, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD), provides services at a level below industry standards; below goals set forth in the City of Brentwood General Plan of July 2014, and below levels provided by fire districts in other parts of Contra Costa County.  ECCFPD has just three (3) stations and nine (9) firefighters on duty at any time, attempting to serve the needs of 120,000 residents spread over 249 square miles.
