Charles G Williams Park Entrance
Charles G Williams Park Entrance
Why this petition matters
The Friends of Charles G. Williams Park are seeking your support to move the existing main entrance on Sorauren Avenue (at Fermanagh Avenue) to a new entrance at the corner of Sorauren and Wabash Avenues.
By signing this petition, you can join neighbours and park visitors who have voiced their concerns about being able to access the park safely via a marked, pedestrian street crossing.
The current main entrance on Sorauren where Fermanagh Avenue ends, was designed in 1983 when traffic on Sorauren Avenue was not as heavy as it is today. This T junction does not have a stop sign and can be difficult to cross safely with children in tow.
In addition, we would like our City representative, Councillor Gord Perks and City officials to open up the corner entrance as a placemaking opportunity. We feel that echoing the entrance to Sorauren Park at the north-east corner of Sorauren and Wabash Avenues, signals to pedestrians and motorists alike that they are entering a pedestrian-friendly park zone. Charles G. Williams Park is due to undergo a refurbishment in August 2020 and this endeavor should be considered in the scope.
As long-time park users and neighbourhood residents, we believe that creating a new entrance at a marked crossing provides a much-needed opportunity to enhance the safety of our streets and ensure that the increased intensity of use at our beloved park is supported.
If you support our idea, please sign below and provide your postal code so that we can present a unified community voice to Councillor Perks and the City.
