Don't Let the Music Die in Downtown Punta Gorda
Don't Let the Music Die in Downtown Punta Gorda
Why this petition matters
The Punta Gorda City Council is considering changing the Sound and Time for Music Closing Ordinances at it's next City Council Meeting. 14 Complaints (8 from the same person) was the reason for the consideration. Downtown Punta Gorda provides a vibrant and fun atmosphere for music fans of all ages. From the smooth sounds of Jazz on a Friday night at the Wyvern, to the Jimmy Buffet sounds at Hurricane Charlies, to the Latin sound of Carmelo's, to the rock at Dean's, to the sounds of The Boogiemen at Harpoon Harry's, to the local bands heard at Shorty's and Angela's, - there is music for all ages. Downtown, City Marketplace and Laishley Park is a great place for national acts also - as was shown by the successful appearance last week by "The Drifters" at the 2019 Block Party. The Downtown restaurant and music venues also provide a place for local musicians to showcase their talents. Keeping the time to end music by 11pm is vital also - for those that travel to Punta Gorda from all over SW FL to enjoy all Downtown has to offer.
