Why this petition matters

Started by IFAASA

We would like the Medical Aids to cover Infertility, which is a Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) Disease and, happens to be the only PMB disease on their exclusion list. Why the discrimination against the 1 in 6 couples who suffer from Infertility?

The World Health Organisation recognises Infertility as a disease and, it's one of the most prevalent diseases amongst people aged 20-45.

Medical Aid members suffering from infertility include members diagnosed with the disease for reasons outside their control, and members that are diagnosed with cancer, who seek fertility preservation treatment. While many believe that infertility is a result of waiting until it’s too late to have children, this is most often not the case. Infertility can strike at any age, leaving sufferers in the tragic position of not being able to conceive, without specialist help. And unable to afford private health care, but being deemed to earn too much to receive public health care, these couples are bound to live a child free life.

Before people jump in and complain about everyone's scheme fees going up, to cover this disease, there has been research done and presented, which shows that the schemes would actually save money in the long run, if they fund treatments with T's & C's in place.
