Why this petition matters

Started by Maya Carter

In 2015, 19 year old Joshua Williams was arrested and convicted of arson for setting trashcans on fire during the Ferguson protests over the very public and brutal death of Michael Brown Jr.
Joshua has been in jail since. He was sentenced to 8 years for his participation in the protests. This is egregious.

For this young black man, burning trashcans meant he became a “statement” for the State of Missouri! This injustice must be righted! Another young black life stalled because of the inequality of our judicial system! His crime should not have garnered him the amount of time he received, however the prosecuting attorneys choose to make an “example” of him. He was a teenager, and he was rightfully upset. Teenagers do silly things, but as a black teenager it is often a detriment to their chances of a good life.

Burning trashcans. 8 years.

Joshua is up for parole this month! This is urgent! We must stay vigilant!

We ask that the parole board release Joshua Williams immediately! We ask that the state of Missouri do the right thing to correct a vicious injustice and a harsh sentence that stalled this young mans life!

Governor Parson we ask that Joshua Williams be immediately released from prison!
