Why this petition matters

Started by Women's Pro Hockey Seattle

Women's ice hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and hockey fans are clamoring for more opportunities to watch the game on television. Despite its popularity, women's professional and national-team ice hockey is not televised beyond sporadic Olympic-team coverage every few years, and definitely not in an equal and consistent manner.

While the growth and popularity of women’s sports has skyrocketing in recent years, it only receives 4% of coverage in the US, according to the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport at the University of Minnesota

We believe that ESPN, as the most watched sports channel -- owned by Disney (80%) and Hearst Communications (20%), should be broadcasting women’s professional hockey games and International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s and U18 World Championship tournaments, in an equal and consistent way.

Please sign the petition to ask ESPN to:

1. Broadcast women's professional and national team ice hockey games, including play-by-play, post-game interviews, and standard event coverage,

2. in a consistent, regularly scheduled and marketed way,

3. while providing in-depth analysis and background stories on ESPN’s sports news programs.

Please sign and share the petition by tagging @ESPN @WaltDisneyCo and @Hearst with the hashtag #WoHoOnESPNow (Women's Hockey On ESPN Now)
