Why this petition matters

Started by Chirag Garg

We aim to reveal, restore and reintroduce grandeur of The Himalayas in its full depth and dimension. Our aim is to protect the environment and support the natives. We believe planting more trees and documenting the region is a good place to start.

The Himalayas are one of the most important mountain ranges of the world, and are located in South Asia. They cross five countries including Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan. As China and India are bigger economies, they specifically need to show high level of commitment when it comes to preserving the Himalayas. They must take bold actions today to restore them. Actions such as designing new environment friendly policies, providing appropriate funds, preparing proper plan, arranging required workforce, dignifying the natives, preserving cultural heritage etc. should happen immediately.

Why exactly we need The Himalayas?
The Himalayan glaciers, which stretch east from northern Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, through Nepal and Bhutan, and into the neighbouring Tibetan Plateau and China, are the source of fresh water for nearly four billion people in Asia. The melting of snow in the Arctic and Antarctic due to global climate change is reported frequently, but the melting of the Himalayas’ glaciers has gone largely unreported, even though far more people are affected. The glaciers of the Himalayas are, in fact, the "Third Pole.” They feed the giant rivers of Asia that support half of the world’s population. The Himalayan glaciers are also called the "Water Towers of Asia."
Apart from being a place of tourist’s interest, the Himalayas are proud of being studded with sanctified shrines which are considered to be the abodes of the Gods. Large number of pilgrims trek through difficult terrain to pay their reverence to these sacred shrines. Innumerable sages, seers, and spiritual masters have walked and graced the land. The Himalayas have always been an "Epitome of Ancient Wisdom Traditions." Many natives have also said that the mountains themselves are like their deities which needs to preserved and cherished.
Furthermore, The Himalayan region contains many valuable minerals. Fortunately, many of the mineral resources cannot be exploited today due to adverse geographical conditions and improper technology. However, advancements in technology will lead to exploitation of those resources. So the future possibility of mineral exploitation in the Himalayas is huge. The Native people and their land should be protected from modern man's greed; and this is exactly where it starts.

Please sign this petition and join the movement.

Let's make this happen.
