Austin Should Allow CBD Stores To Remain Open
Austin Should Allow CBD Stores To Remain Open
Why this petition matters
In these times of growing uncertainty and worry, Austinites—now more than ever—are seeking to improve their wellness routines to support their mental and physical health. The city of Austin, in naming CBD businesses nonessential, is standing in direct opposition to this.
According to the Essential Businesses clause of the City’s Stay-at-Home order, “...[Healthcare Operations] does not include retail outlets that specialize in the selling of electronic cigarette products or cannabidiol [CBD] products.”
While liquor stores can continue to operate freely, CBD businesses are being forced to close their doors and those who benefit from their products—old and young—are turned away.
Austin is one of the few cities in the United States to specifically call out CBD as nonessential. While most places have outlined protections for supplements and wellness products and states across the nation have protected cannabis businesses specifically, the city known for its health-loving inhabitants has banned businesses selling the natural compound that many rely on during chaotic and stressful times.
For the sake of all those living in Austin who seek natural alternatives for their calming and health-promoting benefits, I’ve created this petition.
If you believe that the City of Austin’s Government should reconsider their stance on CBD products for the sake of its residents’ health, then I encourage you to sign this.
