Re-open Wake County Parks & trails (Umstead) to help people cope with Covid-19 crisis!
Re-open Wake County Parks & trails (Umstead) to help people cope with Covid-19 crisis!
Why this petition matters
Parks fire roads & trails are 3x's wider and far less traveled than greenways; however, the Wake County National Park Service ordered trails closed during the Covid19 crisis. This is not only unnecessary, but also removes the public's opportunity to cope with this pandemic in a healthy way. Park rangers are now yelling at the public rudely to stay out of the parks.
Gun sales & suicides have sky rocketed as a result of panic, income loss, businesses failing, as our economy is crashing.
Substantially more people in the U.S. and N.C. will die from suicide, the flu & traffic accidents, than from covid19.
Residents are traveling away from this area to other N.C. parks that remain open to public use. Encouraging the public to travel goes against the stay at home requirement. Allow the parks to remain open so that the public can cope with adequate social distancing.
There are petitions & lawsuits that have been started against closing parks. This will result in greater consumer cost, financial losses, increased debt and a total waste of tax dollars. Please consider opening the public access to one of the few preserved areas of nature that helps the public to retain quality of their lives and endure this crisis in a healthy way.
