Rename An Edmonton Street For Jelena Mrdjenovich
Why this petition matters
Jelena Mrdjenovich is a professional boxer residing in Edmonton. She is a three-weight world champion, having held the unified WBA and WBC female featherweight titles since 2016; the WBC female super featherweight title from 2005 to 2009; the WIBF lightweight title from 2006 to 2008; the WIBA featherweight title from 2011 to 2012; and the WBC female featherweight title twice between 2012 and 2015.
Not only is she a talented athlete, But she is also a solid fixture in the community for her charitable work and entrepreneurship as the owner of Champs Boxing Studio.
We are asking for your support to encourage Edmonton City Council and Mayor Iveson to name a street after this Champion. Even though we may have done away with the “City of Champions“ title for the city, Jelena proves that we truly are that.
Our hope is that by obtaining enough signatures, we will be able to encourage the City of Edmonton to recognize her contributions in this way. We have named many streets and parks for other individuals (most of them men) who have done great things both locally and internationally and it is time we recognized this local legend with something similar. She has put Edmonton on the map in the boxing world and our hopes are that she will be recognized with something that will show her how much our community appreciates and supports her.
