"White & gold - the two colors that define us at Georgia Tech.  Since the first mention of official colors back in April of 1891 to the storied tradition of the Ramblin’ Wreck, white & gold are in our blood. A complementary color of navy blue, rooted deep in the history of Georgia Tech, rounds out the palette."

• The Georgia Tech fight song is called "Up with the White and Gold." 
• The Athletic Association asks fans to wear gold to games
• The interlocking GT logo is only to be written in white or gold
• The mascot, a yellow jacket, fits with a yellow/gold color
• Tech Gold is a unique color only used by Georgia Tech
• The school is the only FBS football program to have white and gold as it's two primary colors.  It sets the school apart.

These are all reasons to be proud of using and wearing Tech Gold.  However, as of late, all the gold is disappearing.  It's almost completely absent from stores with Georgia Tech products.  With the new Adidas deal, there are options online for cool apparel, but almost none in Tech Gold.  No matter how badly you want to spend money to get your gold gear for Gamedays, you can't.  These stores are full of navy and grey, with sparse amounts of white.  The official Barnes & Nobles bookstore looks like it belongs to Penn St., rather than Georgia Tech.

Now the athletic teams are being deprived of the school's colors.  Football was given a navy alternate jersey, but no gold option.  Track and field, tennis, baseball, basketball, softball, etc. are all performing in a color, navy, that sends a confusing brand message.  This is supposed to be a complimentary/tertiary color, yet it has become more and more prominent. 

As Georgia Tech makes a push to improve its brand, it is moving the opposite direction when it comes to the visual aspects.  The unrecognizable GT blue and white combo is confusing and non-unique.  This combo on the field, arena, gym, etc. looks like Georgia Tech is attempting to copy other schools instead of being proud of who they are.  

As an institution, the Georgia Tech Athletic Association needs to used its newly consolidated brand to provide a clear message of what it's strong, respected brand is: White and Gold.  And keep navy to complimentary status.
