Why this petition matters

Important!! One MP has said that change.org petitions will not be considered despite them following all procedures- I have created a mirror petition on the parliament website as per their instructions PLEASE also sign that one as well as on here so there is no excuse for this to be ignored. Link is included below. Please share.

Many people experience Racial Abuse in the UK, and what's incredibly painful is children experiencing racism in schools. A place where they should be kept safe from all harm. From name calling, to educational segregation, isolating and excluding black children for their NATURAL hair, Muslim girls having their hijab pulled off and Eastern European students experiencing 49% more racism after the Brexit vote- to name a few of the numerous examples.

Whether that be from other students or staff, there have been countless incidents of racial abuse, both direct and indirect which too often goes unpunished and what's more the victim is silenced and penalized for attempting to speak out. Some have been killed such as Shukri Abdi.

SOLUTIONS:

  • There needs to be an external body that deals with Racially motivated incidents in schools where the student won't be silenced or pressured by members of staff to not speak about it and all instances of Racism against any ethnicity handled with upmost care and sensitivity.
  • Racial literacy- educate students on Racism from and early age and address any racist behaviour at the first instance.
  • The press is always highlighting how children from 'under privileged and ethnic minority communities' don't perform as well academically yet nothing is being done to help these forgotten communities. Provide adequate funds for under invested areas and create youth centres for these children to attend after school, where they can get support with their education outside of school.

No one is born Racist. Racist young people become racist adults. More needs to be done to address such behaviour and it be dealt with the severity and tact at an early age.

Children from Black and other Ethnicities deserve to go to school and feel safe from any type of racism, direct and indirect. The government should intervene to support to children who will grow up to be adults who suppressed trauma and injustice. Shukri Abdi who was killed before getting to be a teenager. The nation has been searching for a missing girl for many years, but after the Victoria Climbie Act 2004 was passed- every child matters and every child deserves safety and justice.
