Why this petition matters

Started by Ashley Lowe

BRING LIVE MEETINGS, CONVENTIONS, AND TRADESHOWS BACK TO LAS VEGAS IN A SAFE AND CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT BY ALLOWING THEM TO OPERATE UP TO 50% OF PUBLISHED FIRE CODE CAPACITY WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS.

Las Vegas is the most important Meetings and Events destination in the world, including being ranked the #1 Tradeshow destination for the past 26 years. This segment of our business is critical to the overall success of Las Vegas, is the foundation of our midweek hotel occupancy, drives the use of the amenities for which our city is famous, and employs tens of thousands of Nevadans.

Since March 2020, Las Vegas has lost $8.5 billion in convention revenue and $2.3 billion in wages and severed over 50,000 jobs. This decision to cap meetings at 49-person maximum has impacted everyone from the airport, taxis, security, bell stand, housekeeping, restaurants, retail, catering, technology services, business services, entertainment, and tours.

Please sign this petition to ask for support from Governor Sisolak to lift the 49-person maximum gathering cap and move it to fifty percent capacity.  Our meetings and events personnel are the best in the world and can execute events safely if Governor Sisolak allows us to do so.  The alternative is that more and more customers will cancel their events in Las Vegas and move their events to these other cities that are allowing larger events and leave our citizens permanently unemployed. These same procedures are being used in Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Louisville, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, and Orlando to name a few.

Please act immediately so that meetings can start again and everyone who is laid off can get back to work and take care of their families. Customers from January to May are making the decision to stay or to move to another city right now.  Literally every day another event cancels for 2021.  If we don’t act immediately this business will be effectively closed further into next year.
