Why this petition matters

Started by Mark Lowe

Scrabble is a board game that has been around for over 80 years.

People regardless of age, sex/gender, smell, colour or anything else,  the only thing you need to have in common is a dictionary. The current EA games version has maintained the board game and is familiar to those who have grown up enjoying scrabble. While there have been some opportunities missed in expanding the version, especially i terms of having to be a registered facebook user or a member of a lesser known service, it is adequate enough and provides a decent legacy for Scrabble.

The EA games version is due to be discontinued in June 2020 and is due to be replaced with Scopelys' Scrabble GO (SG). SG is modelled on successful games like candy crush or numerous others that use more high sensory stimulation to entice players into making in app purchases. While there could very well be a market for scrabble with lots of flashing bonus chests, power ups or whatever else, it cannot be marketed as the "Official scrabble app".

Hasbro and/or Mattel as the owners of the Scrabble brand/trademark should not license and/or endorse SG as the official digital scrabble app. SG is a direct attack on the brand.

The aim of this petition is to ensure that Scrabble GO cannot be marketed as the official digital version of Scrabble, with the hope that the EA games version or something similar can continue to occupy this space. Scrabble is part of our heritage and shouldn't be debased in a digital age, it should and until now adapted to the digital age.
