SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN TO BAN HAZARDOUS PESTICIDES

The food we eat can either be the safest or the most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison. Any food that we eat today is either adulterated, grown with chemical fertilizer or controlling pests through chemical pesticides and hybrid seeds. In recent day’s many of our daily used food items has been produced genetically modified adding to incurable diseases for the community irrespective of their socio, economic and cultural profile.

There are currently 18 hazardous pesticides that are banned, its registrations, import, manufacture, formulation, transport, sell is prohibited and its use is completely banned from the date of publication of the Order in India and also been mentioned in the present gazette by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, NOTIFICATION, New Delhi during August 2018. Lists are below:

1.Benomyl 2 Carbaryl 3. Diazinon 4 Fenarimol 5 Fenthion 6 Linuron 7 Methoxy Ethyl Mercury Chloride 8 Methyl Parathion 9 odium Cyanide 10 Thiometon 11 Tridemorph 12 Trifluralin are already banned. And rest 6 will start its effect from December 2020 - 13Alachlor 14 Dichlorvos 15 Phorate 16 Phosphamidon 17 Triazophos 18 Trichlorfon

The above mentioned pesticides are not just harmful to environment but have hazardous impact on human health. Despite the ban, these pesticides are easily available in the market and are used by many farmers in Jharkhand. Long term pesticide exposure has been linked to the development of Parkinson's disease; asthma; depression and anxiety; attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); and cancer, including leukaemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. There are just 18 pesticides that have been recently banned but they are many other pesticides like MONOCROTOPHOS, ACEPHATE, OXYDEMETONMETHYL etc are still been used in India, but are banned in other countries like U.S.

Centre For World Solidarity, a non government humanitarian organization working on three thematic issues of human dignity, sustainable livelihood and people centred governance, focusing on the marginalized groups-women, dalits, adivasis and minorities. CWS partnered with 94 small grassroots organizations in the operational States of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and implemented 109 projects.

We have been promoting organic farming and realized that raising voice against banning of pesticides is equally important. Therefore, we call for action among all the stakeholders of the society to help in this cause, to raise voice against harmful and hazardous pesticides by signing this pledge to ban pesticides which will be submitted to Ministry of Agriculture in Jharkhand, Food Public distribution & Consumer Affairs Jharkhand, Organic Farming authority of Jharkhand to bring in effect.
