As is the case with most major healthcare decisions they affect a broad range of people in the community.  It has recently come to our attention that due to the breakdown in negotiations between Montefiore Healthcare Network and United HealthCare 60,000 people in the Bronx, Westchester and Rockland have been negatively affected as set forth below.

Some of those people affected are Catholic School Teachers represented by us, The Federation of Catholic Teachers.  We want to raise this as a community service not just for our members but for all those with employer sponsored, individual, and Medicaid plans, who are negatively affected.  For example:  patients were forced to seek other providers to avoid out of pocket costs, some were unable to be seen at a private doctor’s office, others were faced with doctors who are not taking new patients, and many had to travel long distances with increased transportation expenses to seek care.

We need the parties involved to get back to the bargaining table in order to resolve this issue.
