Why this petition matters

Police are important for safety in our cities.

Recently Seattle City Council decided to partially defund SPD. This is not a decision that should belong to anyone other than the tax payers who’s hard earned money pays for this protection. If we do not stand up now, which City council will follow in their actions and make more cities unsafe?

Businesses have already announced plans to leave Seattle without police protection. As store fronts empty we will see less and less consumers shopping in Seattle for lack of options, and as safety becomes a higher concern we will see Seattle property values plummet, and the downward spiral of this great City will continue.

Before any action to remove our officers that are there to keep law and order in our communities, a proper plan should be laid out on how our communities will stay safe, and exactly where these funds would go.
The option of restructuring and adding advanced trainings should also be considered before a decision is made to defund police departments, as well as analysts evaluation to restructure pay grade and ensure there is no over inflated salaries, while creating ranges and caps for positions. Other salaries such as City council should also be evaluated by these analysts and in the restructuring if they find leftover funds that should be the deciding factor of defunding.

Please sign this petition to overturn their decision. Even if you are for defunding, you should not be okay with this decision not being in the communities hands still. Please sign and respect that it should be a majority decision for our communities, and that there is other options such as reformation.
