We demand that The University of Michigan disaffiliates from Bo Schembechler. Team doctor Robert Anderson sexually assaulted over 100 student athletes, including football players who played under Schembechler. We now have credible allegations that Schembechler knew about the abuses, but did nothing to stop them. He could've fired Anderson and reported him to the police, but he chose not to.

The University of Michigan has a legacy of speaking up against injustice. It's a source of community pride. So why should the University continue to honor someone who did the opposite? The University of Michigan prides itself on being "The Leaders and Best", and Schembechler's inaction showed none of that. 

We, the University of Michigan community, are demanding a complete scrubbing of Schembechler's name from honorable positions. This includes (by not limited to)...

- Renaming Schembechler Hall

- Removing his statue from the aforementioned building

- Stopping the use of "The team, the team, the team" at sporting events

- Ending sales of Schembechler related merchandise

Schembechler was one of the greatest coaches in the history of University of Michigan. Removing his name from a building is not erasing history. His wins will remain in the record book. Being the namesake of a building and a statue is an honor reserved to those with integrity. Schembechler's refusal to take action against a serial abuser who served under him shows that he does not deserve those honors.
