Stop the Ice Pick for good
Stop the Ice Pick for good
Why this petition matters
We all thought the dreaded Ice Pick project was dead — robustly rejected by Vancouver city hall and the public alike. Yet once again Cadillac Fairview is proposing this ballooning 26-storey mega-tower on their tiny parking lot at 555 Cordova Street, right at the entrance of the heritage Gastown district and transportation hub at Waterfront Station.
Perhaps they think we are distracted with COVID and will go along meekly this time. Let's show them how wrong they are.
The Waterfront Hub Plan will create further much-needed public space and accessibility to the Gastown and DTES waterfront once it is finalised in the spring of 2021. But the notorious Ice Pick development is poised to sabotage this plan with a project long-opposed by planners, architects and the community. Nothing should be developed before the Central Waterfront Review Process is completed by the city. The Ice Pick is nicknamed for both its shape and function, as it stabs at the heart of an iconic district.
Vancouver is famous around the world as a liveable city. This is in large part due to equitable waterfront access and beautiful views distributed along view corridors -- all enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. These amenities are important for mental and physical health, and must be conserved and cultivated.
Let's band together to stop the Ice Pick now! Please sign and share! #stoptheicepick
