Patrick Lee Reed is my youngest brother. He was murdered February 13, 2019. He was taken from his mother, father, two sisters, three brothers, his son and the rest of his family.

Please forgive me ahead of time if it's a bit out of order. I can only give the information that the family and myself was given. 

On the night of February 12, 2019, Patrick was hanging out with three of his friends. Now what went on that night isn't fully clear because the family has been told many different stories. Most stories went a little like this: Patrick was riding with his friends when the friends stopped the car and told Patrick that they were going inside of a nearby Walgreens to get a few things and that they would be right back. As Patrick waited in the car, police started swarming the parking lot because the friends ended up going to that Walgreens to rob the place. Patrick heard a gunshot and took off running.

Now, the gunshot that he heard, was the gunshot that killed his best friend Ketrel, whom was handcuffed with his hands behind his back and faced down. So, it is safe to say that the officer shot Ketrel even though he wasn't a threat, right?  So, as any scared/clueless 19 year old would do, Patrick ran trying to get away from the scene. Instead of the officers chasing him and tasering him, they shot him. Not once, not twice, not even three times, they shot him four to five times. Patrick was rushed to the hospital where he fought for his life. He died midnight February 13, 2019 due to the bullet/bullets that hit his lungs. 

Now, the news gave a few different stories which none of them make sense. It was said that they found guns in the car. Then they said that there were no guns in the car. Then they said that the suspects were armed. If the suspects were armed, then why did they wait until the suspects were handcuffed to shoot Ketrel. Patrick autopsy report came back with no gun residue found but it was said that he shot at the police force. With that being said, if they felt the need to shoot him, then the one shot that they took at his ankle/leg definitely slowed Patrick down. Which would have given them more than enough time to apprehend him. There was no reason to shoot at an unarmed black teenager four to five times. The officers/Texas Rangers made a conscious decision to shoot to kill. I say that because Patrick was running which means he was NOT facing the officers initially but some point in time Patrick turned towards them which is how they were able to shoot him in his chest once or twice. 

My little brother was taken less than a month before his 20th birthday and we still haven't been told which officer shot him nor why they shot him. When it happened, our family reached out to a lawyer whom gave up on us because law enforcement would NOT release any information on the tragedy. We have been told that any and everything about the case is blacked out as if it’s being buried/hidden. It has been two years to date that we have been without Patrick and everyday seems to get harder and harder. Especially being that we have no closure. 

In closing, I LaKeithen Dominique Reed ask that each and every one of you sign this petition and help our family, especially our mother, get the closure that we all need and deserve. We ask that the whomever was involved in the murder of Patrick Lee Reed get punished for taking his life. He wasn't perfect but he was on positive path to change is life for the better! It could have been one of their loved ones and if it was we all know that they would have been gotten justice for their loved one.
