Why this petition matters

Started by Brookdale Neighborhood Association

We are in opposition to the CityGate West project that would be built in the area west of Route 59 and north of I-88 currently occupied by Top Golf and Whirly Ball. This development would have a serious impact to District 204 schools and the families that live within the District. The Brookdale Neighborhood Association is in favor of smart development that benefits the entire area. We are not in favor of the development in its current configuration.

At the core of the development are 2 buildings comprising 410 residences  – 82 studio/convertible apartments, 224 one-bedroom apartments, and 104 two-bedroom apartments. The developer states that the development will generate an additional 32 students that would attend our already-crowded elementary, middle and high schools. Data on other apartment complexes with similar two-bedroom, one-bedroom and studio configurations indicates that between 57-102 students will be generated from 100 two-bedroom units. The District 204 Board of Education is already on record as opposing the project in its current configuration. We want the City to know that our schools are already over capacity and that we are not in favor of any development that would add more students to our schools, or which would result in more neighborhood children being bussed to other District 204 schools outside of Brookdale.

Please do NOT approve the CityGate West development.
