Why this petition matters

Started by Fight for the Fatherless in Action

Parents and families from all across the UK, that have lost children to suicide or had children seriously harmed, as a consequence of failures to address bullying and violence complaints are calling for new laws to stop bullying and violence including sexual violence in schools from being ignored.

Our Safer Schools campaign group currently includes families from across the whole of the UK with more than 18 of those families having lost children to suicide as a consequence of complaints being ignored by schools.

On February 25th, 650 Ministers and MP's were invited to attend meetings held in Westminster and Parliament with many of the grieving families and learn how they could prevent this from happening to any other children in the future. Only two MP's attended the meetings. A number of MP's had agreed to attend but either cancelled or just did not show.

The solution to the problem is simple. Currently we have in place laws and policies to protect all adults including politicians from bullying and violence in every workplace. We are asking Politicians to ensure that all children across the UK should be given the exact same protections in schools.

The proposed changes to laws and policies that we are calling for will ensure;

#1 Schools must all follow a National Code of Conduct/Practice for dealing with bullying and violence complaints.

#2 Schools must follow their written bullying policies by law

#3 Schools must record all incidents of bullying and violence brought to their attention.

#4 All decisions in relation to bullying and violence complaints must be appealable to at least one other independent body above the School and Governors.

#5 Details of outcomes of any bullying and violence complaints must be made available to the complainant from schools, Local Authorities, School Inspection bodies and Government Education Departments.

Please sign the petition and demand that the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson take steps to meet with the families in person to not only learn from their experiences of previous failings but to understand why these putting these policies in place would be critical, to ensure no child is harmed or loses their life ever again, as a consequence of bullying and violence complaints being ignored
