Why this petition matters

Started by Gavin McLean

The recent pandemic has showed us that the government can work with companies like the BBC to convey vital information to the average citizen regarding a crisis and how to mitigate one.

Why is this not being applied to the greatest crisis that humanity has faced when the resources required to spur unity are available?

Constant objective non-politically biased updates regarding what our country and corporations are doing to tackle the climate crisis is the least the population deserves, why does the pandemic qualify as a crisis but not the threat that promises irreversible consequences after a maximum of 10 years that will doom posterity?

Information could include the country's carbon footprint, where we stand relative to our goals, deadlines, consequences, renewable energy investment and so on. This data would have to come from multiple sources, such as the IPCC, World Meteorological Organization, Comittee on Climate Change as well as our government's Department of Energy & Climate Change.

Having these regular updates would ensure that the national effort would not fall to the wayside by reminding us of the ever-present and worsening global warming.

Every negligent action we take that pollutes our air, sets our forests on fire and leads to the eradication of 100s of species are just drops on the rising ocean, we cannot wait until we drown in it to make a difference while others are already suffering.

We can no longer afford to wait. Time is running out. If you care for our children and not the few living in dangerous luxury, now is the time to prove it.

I am merely asking that this crisis is treated for what it is.
