Letterboxd is an amazing communal platform for cinema lovers and it's one of my favorite websites. That being said there's a problem that's plagued the site for a long while, and as an Independent Filmmaker, I feel needs to finally be dealt with. 

TheMovieDb.org is the database that Letterboxd chooses to pull from for movie information and on the surface that sounds fairly un-problematic but if you're a no-budget filmmaker like myself you know that's not the case. TMDb has proven time and time again that they have zero interest in allowing feature films that aren't distributed by a big corporation on their platform and that's extremely problematic for Letterboxd, an otherwise positive, very enjoyable website. 

If you make a film for cheap and choose to release it independently TMDb will remove/blacklist your film and pretend it doesn't exist which makes it EXTREMELY difficult and frustrating to put your films on Letterboxd. 

I highly doubt Letterboxd wants this kind of thing tied to their image, so I'm making this petition to IMPLORE them to reconsider using TMDb as their Movie Database of choice. I think the solution is simple: Use a different database OR make your own that's more filmmaker-friendly. 

I know countless colleagues who have been affected by this massive oversight and it's become exhausting. We make feature films and pour our hearts and souls into them, so to make it THIS difficult to get your stuff on a platform that's supposed to be inclusive to all films is really saddening. 

So please, sign this petition, and let's make Letterboxd a more positive place for filmmakers and audience members alike.
