Why this petition matters

Started by Know the Essentials

Janet Mills just extended Maine's State of Civil Emergency to June 11th.  This maneuver will have unparalleled negative impacts on the State of Maine.

We are petitioning the Maine Senate Assistant Majority Whip, Eloise Vitelli (D-Sagadahoc) and Maine House Majority Whip (D-Biddeford) to hold their Democrat Senate and House to their Democrat Party Platform.

The Maine Democratic State platform includes the following planks: increasing access to quality, affordable health care. Guaranteeing first-class education for all Maine children. Investing in our workforce and small businesses. Fighting for social and economic justice. Preserving Maine’s reputation as one of the best places to live, work and play.

The Party Whips are not doing their jobs.  They are not holding the Maine Democrat Party accountable to the Party Platform.

Maine children are not receiving "first-class education" as the Democrat Party platform promotes. Requiring children to spend hours a day trying to access their education via zoom and other online activity is detrimental to a child's overall health and leads to increased risk for obesity. The Internet alone is an ineffective educational platform.

The Democrat Party is violating its own Party Platform of: "Increasing access to quality, affordable health care."

Maine children can not access their well-child checks and routine dental care because Janet Mills continues this State shutdown. Insisting our children remain in isolation, cut-off from their friends and education, is detrimental to our children's long-term health; both metal and physical. Lack of regular medical care is medical neglect by the State of Maine towards Maine children.

Other medically vulnerable groups in Maine cannot access medical attention such as; cancer victims, children with special needs, adults with critical health issues and people who need dental care.  Across the board, Maine People cannot meaningfully access health care.  This goes against the Maine Democrat Party Platform. The Party Whips must hold the Democrats to their Party Platform.

Because of all these failures, we also ask the DHHS Child Protective Ombudsman, the Director of Department of Human Services and the Director of the Department of Health to insist Janet Mills either lift or restructure her current Maine State shutdown.

The Democrat Party Whips have failed to hold the Democrat Party to their own Party Planks of: "Investing in the Maine workforce and small businesses, fighting for social and economic justice and preserving Maine’s reputation as one of the best places to live, work and play."

Janet Mills' shutdown has specifically targeted Maine small businesses by calling these businesses "non-essential" while allowing large, corporate, out-of-state based businesses to remain open. The Democrats’ targeting of small Maine businesses has resulted in no less than sixty-six small businesses closing forever in this State.  If the current shutdown does not end very soon, these business failures are only the beginning of continued business closure.

Janet Mills has made the State of Maine an unwelcoming location to visit; her policy is positioned to destroy the tourist industry and the lobster industry combined. Although the Maine lobster industry is named, "essential," it cannot afford to haul traps if revenues drop.  It is doubtful the Democrat Party understands the subtleties found within the industry; many Maine fishermen take mortgages against their homes to sustain their boats.  A cascading domino impact lurks around the corner for the banking and housing markets if the lobster industry fails. Even if the lobster industry does not fail, the Maine unemployment rate will surely negatively impact both the banking and housing industries.

We cannot allow this.  The Democrat Whips must hold their fellow Democrats accountable.

Therefore, we additionally ask the Maine Department of Marine Resources, Department of Economic & Community Development, Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Tourism on behalf of all Maine citizens, to insist Janet Mills drastically reform or end her current Maine shutdown plan.
